Science Sense-ations is geared for grades 1 through 3, but people of all ages enjoy the experience, including the adults! Whether you're a teacher or librarian looking for a way to excite your students about science, or a scout leader or mom looking for a fun activity for the kids, Science Sense-ations is sure to be a success!
Music is one of the things that makes Science Sense-ations different from other science programs. Scientist and performer Cheryl Blum introduces each topic with an original song and this helps to spark interest as well as reinforce some concepts. Then she uses the simple scientific process of "Question - Test - Answer" to teach some basic science during each segment. There are dramatics, there are tricks, and there are lots of unique things to get kids thinking about science in a positive light.
There are several programs to choose from. The most popular program runs 60-75 minutes and includes all three topics (chemistry, light, and sound). All programs work best with groups of 20 or less, but this shorter program is available for groups up to 100. The smaller group size also means that each child has a volunteer opportunity, and more hands-on activity. A relatively large room where the children can sit side by side so that they are all "in the front" is the best whenever possible. The room also should have the ability to be darkened considerably.
Another choice is a longer program which runs 90 minutes to 2 hours and includes all of what is covered in the shorter program, plus some extras such as a lesson about germ spreading. and more musical instruments to demonstrate. This program provides the greatest educational value and allows for the highest amount of hands-on activity. This is only offered to small groups of 20 or less. If you still require something different, please inquire as there are many opportunities for customized programs.
